    450a Thursdays, September 21-November 16 / 10:00-11:40am

You have now reached an upper intermediate level and feel ready for a challenge!  This session, we will analyze and compare the powerful truth-inspired novel by Philippe Grimbert - Un Secret (published in 2004) - with its remarkable film adaptation by director Claude Miller (released in 2007). Set in the aftermath of the Nazi Occupation in France, Un Secret tells the troubled story of a sickly boy who grows into an awareness of what he has always somehow known and yet was never told.  For his 15th birthday, he finally discovers his parents’ past, the origin of their passion, their lies and deepest secrets.  This masterpiece raises questions about collective memory and the search for one’s identity. A very moving story and an impressive film!
